Hair colouring is fun and can make you feel like the sexiest being walking the planet earth. It’s fashionable too. Some people may colour their hair to restore their original hair colour or cover up grey hair due to aging. The majority colour their hair for fashion reasons, because why not!!!It’s quiet classy and sexy especially if it comes out right.

So Miss Me here really loves playing around with hair dyes. I never like my hair black most of the times, colour really makes me feel awesome. Can’t say have experimented enough but let me say l really have been there done that with hair dyes. Transitioned from black to blonde,to brunette then black again. My journey has been fun and extremely stressful too. Sometimes it would come out right then my hair would get extra dry and brittle forcing me to a barber’s chair once. We learn as we go right? And l learnt!, so I’m going to share.l gathered up 8 things you should know before colouring your hair. If you follow all these trust me you won’t ever go wrong.

1…

First and foremost you should know that hair colour comes out nicely on healthy smooth hair. If your hair isn’t healthy or if it’s brittle the colour won’t look nice at all. Sorry to be the bearer of such disheartening news but you will have to treat your hair to health before even adding any dye to your shopping cart.Hair dyes have chemicals that may further damage your hair so if your hair is already damaged it’s wise to give your hair a little more time and attention first before colouring. So, use deep conditioning treatments frequently to restore the health of your hair before colouring.

2 Choose

A hair colour that will suit and compliment your skin colour, always! Although no colour is wrong it’s wise to go with a colour that will compliment your skin colour. You don’t want to end up walking around looking like two different people in one body, choose a colour that will look great on you and not make you look like you are trying too hard. It’s okay to go a little overboard with your colours if it’s for a function or photoshoot but once done just try to go back to a less shouting colour. The dress how you want to be addressed doesn’t only apply to clothes.

3 Do

Know that once you colour your hair you may have to change your whole look.I mean, you might just have to introduce the world to a whole new you. This includes your wardrobe and even your make up. Having to create a whole new look might be costly, So if the budget is tight it’s wise to go with a colour that won’t require you to change much when it comes to your your everyday look, avoid the pinks and blues.

4 Don’t…

Wash your hair with shampoo before colouring may irritate your scalp to a larger extent. Keep your hair as it is if your are planning to colour it soon.Do not shampoo it especially on the day you plan on colouring as this may strip the scalp of it’s natural oils and moisture and make the whole colouring process uncomfortable and irritating. This can be caused by ammonia that’s found in most dyes

5 colour comes with change

Are you ready to change your shampoo and conditioners? Colouring your hair will require you to switch your shampoo to one that is suitable for colour treated hair. This is to ensure that your hair stays healthy, smooth and protected from damages that can be caused by some chemicals found in hair dyes.

6 touch ups

So when you colour your hair you should know that you will have to do touch ups every 8 weeks or so, depending of course on the look that you want to achieve (one might decide to go ombre and do touch ups every six months or so). So  if your budget is a bit tight and you know you won’t afford doing touch ups every often it’s wise to go with a colour that is close to your natural hair shade so that your roots will not be noticeable too quickly.

7 Know what you want

Before you visit the saloon it’s very wise to take pictures of what look you want to show to your hairdresser. If you are not sure google and look for pictures on the internet. Find something that you like. Sometimes your hairdresser may advise you on the type of colour they think is good for you or your hair health. If they do girl listen to them because those people know best so if she/he advises you to go with a certain colour instead, listen carefully to the reasons and if you are not sure it’s okay to go back home and think about it.Just don’t go off to another saloon and force another hairdresser to just go with what you want as you may regret it once it’s all done. Take your time and listen to advise too and most of all carry a few pictures of what you have in mind before hitting the saloon.

8 Never

Now although its possible, very much possible to colour your own hair at home I’m against the idea especially if it’s for the first time. Why?Going to the saloon will help identify a certain problem eg if your hair isn’t healthy enough and ready for colouring your hairdresser will tell you and also share some advise on what you can do to in the meantime to ensure you restore your hair to it’s healthy state. They will also share with you on the types of shampoos to use after you colour.

If you have very long hair getting it coloured by an expect is the right thing to do. This will ensure a satisfying result. So rather than struggling on your own at home, save up and go to the saloon.

Do get it done properly to achieve a satisfying result, You look good you feel good too right!!!
